'I was only supposed to look over this little guy for 3 months': This foster cat picked his hooman on day one, followed him everywhere, and made it clear he’s home for good

He was only meant to stay a few months. 

This was only supposed to be temporary. The plan was to foster this little guy for a few months, help manage his diabetes, and get him ready for adoption. A short stop on the way to his forever home.

That didn't last long. He picked his purrson almost right away. He follows them everywhere, room to room, never too far behind. The second they sit or lie down, he's there, climbing into their arms like it's his spot. When they stepped out to grab the mail, he sat by the window and cried until they came back. Even at 2am, he's right there, curled up and staring, completely content just being close.

It's hard to ignore something like that. He's not acting like a cat passing through, he's acting like he already knows where he belongs. After a rough few years, he finally has a place where he feels safe, and he's holding onto it.

Some cats take time to settle. This one didn't. He made the decision quickly, and now it's just a matter of catching up to it. What started as a foster situation is turning into something else, and it feels pretty clear where this is going.

  • The second you even think about foster failing, it’s basically over. Once that thought crosses your mind, you already know where this is going. He’s following you around, sitting on you, waiting by the window, it’s all there. You can try to pretend it’s temporary, but it doesn’t feel that way anymore. At that point, you may as well just accept it. He’s yours now.

  • He chose you to be his pawrent, and he made it very clear. The following, the waiting by the window, the way he settles right on you, that’s not random. That’s a cat picking his person and sticking to it. He’s not looking for another home, he already found one. Once a cat decides that, it’s kind of final. He picked you, and he’s not changing his mind.

  • He definitely chose the right hooman. He sticks close, follows around, and always ends up right next to them. Not every cat does that, so it stands out. He found his person and didn’t let go. It’s clear he feels comfortable and safe there. Once a cat decides that, it usually means something. Looks like he picked well, and it worked out exactly how it should.
